Please note that while this site includes anecdotes originally based on true events, several changes have been made to protect the identity of those involved. Such changes include, but are not limited to, altered names, dates, locations, genders and ages. In addition, in several instances the individuals described are in fact composite characters created from experiences working with numerous patients and colleagues dealing with the same or similar issues. These steps are taken to protect client confidentiality in accordance with both ethical and legal guidelines.
Question of the Week Rules and Disclaimer
The ShrinkTalk.Net Question of the Week (QOTW) is for readers to ask questions about general aspects of psychology and therapy. Because ShrinkTalk.Net is a site generally focused on the lighter side of psychology, questions should be of a similar nature. Topic examples could include relationships, selecting a therapist, careers in psychology, school or work issues, life transitions, etc. The QOTW is not designed to address serious issues such as suicide, depression, or other major psychiatric issues, and questions of this nature will not be addressed. While this site often puts a humorous spin on the field of therapy, please bear in mind that there is a very fine line between being funny and being disrespectful, especially in a sensitive field such as mental health. The goal of the QOTW is not to shame or embarrass anyone who sees a therapist, takes medication for a psychological or psychiatric problem, or seeks out professional help in any way. In fact, we’re trying to achieve the opposite here: to help people understand the therapy process, gain a greater knowledge of psychology in general, and debunk the myths of the field of therapy. Please keep all questions respectful or they will be deleted, and please include your email address (this will not be published, but is necessary so that I may contact you to answer your question if it will not be used on the site). Also read the following disclaimer, which is in addition to the site’s general disclaimer:
